"There's nothing so delightful as being aware. Would you rather live in darkness? Would you rather act and not be aware of your words? Would you rather listen to people and not be aware of what you're hearing, or see things and not be aware of what you're looking at? The great Socrates said, `The unaware life is not worth living.' That's a self-evident truth. Most people don't live aware lives. They live mechanical lives, mechanical thoughts--generally somebody else's--mechanical emotions, mechanical actions, mechanical reactions." "Anytime you have a negative feeling toward anyone, you're living in an illusion. There's something seriously wrong with you. You're not seeing reality. Something inside of you has to change. But what do we generally do when we have a negative feeling? `He is to blame, she is to blame. She's got to change.' No! The world's all right. The one who has to change is you."~ Anthony de Mello from AwarenessAnthony de Mello, a 20th century Jesuit priest passionate about inspiring us to see the world with a deeper sense of awareness, compassion and love, doesn't mince words in this great little book.Awareness.If we want to escape the stimulus-response conditioning of our society and begin to truly live, we've gotta build it."Why don't I see goodness and beauty everywhere? Because you cannot see outside of you what you fail to see inside."Let's take a quick look of some of my favorite Big Ideas:Seeing Beauty - Everywhere.Prescribing Medicine - For your neighbor.Dancing to the Tune - That springs from within.True Selfishness - Is demanding others to...Driving - With the brakes on.Let's string more of those together and enjoy this flash of light!-----To find 250+ more reviews visit http://bit.ly/BrianReviews

Anthony de Mello is a superb spiritual teacher. He advance solid truths and practices in a clear and light mannered fashion.I recommend this book, the posthumous scribing of de Mello lectures by a close associate, to all who seek to broaden and improve the experience of life.In my world, this book is a must read, reread and read again, all the while practicing the suggested life approaches. A much read and annotated copy of Awareness lives near and travels with me at all times; for me, a manual of being.

This is a great book that needs to be read slowly to really digest his message AND BE ABLE TO PUT IT INTO PRACTICE. Just reading it is useless, without putting it into practice. This book is worth coming back to and re-reading to "re charge your awareness battery".

This book is a meditation. I wish I would have read it 15 years ago. It is more of a conversation than a book, very light reading. I had to buy this for a class and I admit I was quite skeptical of it, assuming it would be some new age Oprah-styled dilution of common sense wisdom. But it is simply common sense wisdom. Even for a long time meditator this book is a gentle reminder. This book doesn't have tips or tricks in it. No special methods. What it does have is De Mello's gift for turning our minds back facing inward. Over and over. All this book is about is awareness. Awareness Awareness Awareness Awareness. Nothing else.Fortunately awareness goes nicely with anything. My significant other was working in a foreign country and feeling depressed and lonely. I sent her this Ebook. Within half an hour her spirits had lifted. She finished the book, and is planning on reading it again.Anyone will benefit from reading this.

I am so grateful to my friend and mentor who recommended this book. It is like getting the gift of a new set of eyes with which to see the world. I found myself experiencing effortless, yet profound, shifts in my views of life. It helps realign and reaffirm what I held as true while expanding upon these and allowing me to realize even more relationships I had not considered. Words fail to convey the value of reading this book.

One of my favorite books. Change the way you think, open your mind, get over yourself and others and expectations we place on everything!! Freeing. be aware of how your life experiences shape your bias, the way how you feel, react, and listen to others and how to open yourself to others to understand their experiences purely and appreciatively for what they are.

One has to have patience with this book, since it has only one message, delivered it in several different ways. I could give it here in two words, as helpful and meaningless as they are: "Wake UP!" De Mello is dealing with so many of us who are hard of hearing. Some of the book is shocking, as the parables are shocking, but it is intended to get us to SEE, and for that happen, a good shock to the system is sometimes necessary. The beginning of the book is spent telling the reader that there is no methodology to Awareness. Towards the end, someone decided to include material that seems to provide a methodology. It does no such thing. The chapter on the radical school experiment Summerhill seems out of place. But the beginning of this book is worth volumes.

This was one of those books I share with friends who are struggling. my copy is dog-eared and worn bcause I always see something new. Anthony DeMello was a wise and blunt soul. Don't be put off by his bluntness. Embrace it. Let it shift your thinking about yourself and how you react to the world.
